Ilias Plakokefalos is an Assistant Professor of public international law at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He studied law at the University of Essex and continued his postgraduate studies in public international law at Tulane University. He received his doctorate from the Faculty of Law of the Greek Academy of Sciences. He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam and was an assistant professor at the University of Utrecht. He has taught as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Law of NKUA, the University of Oxford, the University of Lille, and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations. He has also worked as a research associate at the Marangkopoulos Foundation for Human Rights. His research interests include general public international law, the law of international responsibility, the law of the sea, and international environmental law.
